Subbing - Grade 4

I accepted a late assignment today. The class was so orderly. I even had another set of students half of the day, since the two classes switch. This is the 3rd day of school and the students said they did not have an attention signal. So, I chose the "If you can hear my voice clap once, clap twice......
I even played with them a bit by clapping out of sequence.

Nothing else to report. Nice day :-)

Substitute Teaching today, second grade on the 2nd day of school. What do you do when the teacher's signal doesn't work for you? I tried the "RECESS" strategy for behavior. You write the word RECESS on the board, and begin to delete letters. The class as a whole warrants the erasure of a letter. Individual behaviors loss 5 minutes of recess for each occurrence.

Sounds good. Well, we were late to RECESS because lunch room was late in lining them up. In fact, I lined them up to take them outside. We came in after 5 minutes. It was too HOT!! Promised them indoor recess; however, the constant redirection of behavior caused further delay and by the time we reached the class, recess was over.
